EXCLUSIVE PORT ELLEN SCOTCH WHISKY
The "Pert mEllon" edition
We got a sample bottle in February 2007. When I got it, I said “The nose reminds me of Grandad’s old leather tobacco pouch, a perky citrus orange hint with cheeky melons in the background which blossoms throughout the peat-laced palate until reaching a dry satisfying conclusion.”
It was then the old saying …. Did you know men only think about two things in life ….. sex and whisky … came true! I said, with these tasting notes, we should call this Pert mEllon, not Port Ellen.
That started a chain of events that beggar belief!
Richard knew I was about to embark on a buying trip to Campbeltown. “Get yourself down the supermarket and buy yourself a couple of melons”. At this, I purchased the finest pair of melons the Co-Op in Melton Mowbray could offer ..The rest is history.
In a Challenge Anika (British 1980’s TV show) stlyee, the progress of the aforementioned melons from deepest Lincolnshire to Scotland was closely followed with regular phone calls. If only we had the helicopter!
We would like to apologise to the residents of Kintyre in Scotland. The sight of two Honeydew melons being transported from tourist spot to tourist spot must have alarmed many residents, but this was all in the name of art! With scenes reminiscent of a Vogue photo shoot, with shots taken on cliff tops and rocky outcrops, the final picture was taken on a shingle beach, a lovely pair of melons, with the frothy sea coming all around the fruit.
Be quick to secure your bottle as there are only 220 bottles available.
